The food is judged not only by its taste but by its look also, that is why a proper lighting of your kitchen will certainly improve your appetite.
Kitchen lighting can be relatively divided into two types – the ceiling lighting and the extra lighting. The ceiling lighting provide your kitchen with equally distributed dispersed light, its main goal is to maintain a lit kitchen area in the evening and, if the kitchen has no windows, to replace the natural lighting. Such lighting can be created with the help of ceiling lamps, pendants and spotlights that can change the direction of the light beam when needed.

But sometimes it’s very difficult to guess how much lighting you’ll need for your kitchen, so it instead of lighting the whole kitchen area with the same source of light you may try and concentrate certain lights on certain kitchen areas: cooking zone, dining table and a bar stand (if there is one).
Providing a good lighting for your cooking area is very important, you may use single ceiling lamps or inbuilt lights situated above the cupboards. If you use ceiling lamps – make sure they are hanged not too low; otherwise you may find it difficult to open the cupboards. If your kitchen’s ceiling is quite low, don’t stuff it with different lighting sources, you can place some diminutive lights in the furniture itself. Some of the pieces have special places – cornices for them.

Lighting the dining table is also essential and you shouldn’t get away with the ceiling lighting only. If the table is placed close to a wall, then you may use a wall light to brighten the area. A modern solution is to place a range of pendants on long stems above the table, but if you like to move your table, than a high table lamp with a thick lampshade might help. It will decorate the table and provide soft soothing lighting.

In any case, make sure that the kitchen lighting doesn’t make your food look unnatural. Soft and well-chosen lighting will make your meals look tasty and create a good kitchen atmosphere.

Just like a diamond needs a decent setting, so does your home need a well-organized lighting. The first rule of the lighting design says that there should be two types of lighting: the main and the accentuating. Main lighting is created by powerful lamps that give us a diffused light. Accentuating lighting is made with a variety of lamps that help to create a certain design and emphasizes the special appeal of each room.

Nowadays we use three types of lamps: electric incandescent lamps, or bulbs, halogen lamps and fluorescent lamps.

Bulbs were the first electric lamps that still serve our needs. Their light is considered to be optimal for our eyes, but they have one huge disadvantage: only 5% of the energy is used on producing light, the other 95 % are turned into heat.

Later halogen lamps appeared that turn almost the whole energy into light. Moreover they are good at saving energy: an 11 Watt halogen lamp provides the same lighting a 50-60 Watt bulb does. But they have their drawbacks, too: they flicker, buzz and wear out our eyes and mind quickly. Though today engineers have managed to remove these drawbacks, and you can find a great variety of lights with halogen lamps – like halogen bath wall lamps by Illuminating Experiences.
Fluorescent lamps are also popular because the beam of light can be directed on certain working places. Their merit is that they possess great capacity but use the minimum of electricity. But fluorescent lamps need a transformer, which makes the price for such lighting quite high. On the other hand – a fluorescent lamp serve twice longer than a halogen lamp, which makes the price quite reasonable.

The market is being conquered by lamps with diodes recently. They don’t heat up, and require a low voltage. They can work without pauses during 90 000 hours, which allows to embed them in walls or use them for the outdoor lighting. In the picture you can see Floor diode lamps at the Arab World Institute in Paris. They are also very solid and can’t be broken even if you step on them. But their function is decorative only because of the comparatively small capacity.

Of course, someone may think that design of the light leaves much to be desired, but its creator aimed on its durability and ease.
